Entering into the new financial year with the zeal and great momentum, Balochistan, long envisioned in the bugle of underdevelopment and political issues is moving forward with a set of new development projects. The provincial government led by Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has initiated a wide range of powerful interventions to fast-track development, to enhance service delivery and to generate opportunities for the people of the province. These activities are a transition to practical on-the-ground work.
As compared to the previous regimes in disbursing the government funds allocated for the various development projects of the PUBLIC SECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (PSDP), the current government paid Rs.50 billion to the Public Sector Development Program projects on the 1st day of the financial year. According to the Dawn newspaper, the funds were immediately directed towards various projects.
The Balochistan government implemented an organized Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system of the PSDP projects in July of 2025. The plan imposes the requirement that Divisional Directors of Development should conduct field visits to at least 25% of ongoing and new schemes in their divisions. Moreover, the M&E Wing has also been assigned with the responsibility of carrying out its independent assessment of chosen schemes. To make sure that the progress is regularly monitored, all the offices of the divisions should submit progress reports, both financial and physical implementation, no later than the 5th of each month, and a final year-end report at the end of the fiscal year. To ensure accountability, the system will also require monthly reviewing meetings, chaired by the Secretary (Implementation) or the Director General of M&E wherein the divisional directors will report on the progress. This order was made upon the recommendation of the Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and the Additional Chief Secretary (Development), Zahid Saleem, shortly after the beginning of the FY 2025-26 development cycle.
Health sector has been a burning issue for a long-time in the province. In July, the cabinet ratified a strategy to reopen closed and non-operational hospitals using the support of the Pakistan army. This effort is projected to rejuvenate basic health care provisions in neglected regions and thousands of people will not have to go to distant places in search of healthcare.
Rural Balochistan is mainly agricultural. The government has introduced the Green Tractor Scheme to support farmers, according to which half the subsidized price of a tractor is given. It is projected that the scheme will improve food security in the province by making agricultural activities more cost effective to small farmers, enhancing agricultural productivity, and improving the livelihoods of the rural population
In the mid of August 2025, a new growth dimension was created when the United States also showed interest to invest in Balochistan Minerals and hydrocarbons, especially in Reko Diq. This would create opportunities to forge foreign alliances, sophisticated technologies and job creation- making Balochistan South Asia’s epicenter of strategic minerals.
Government of Balochistan has shown that after July, 2025, it is making a transition to performance rather than making promises. The release of funds, organised surveillance, medical restoration, farming empowerment, energy development with renewable sources, and the rising international investment make up a line of success. The scale of these efforts can be considered renewed urgency and focus, although challenges persist.
